I just took a look at my tomato plants today and saw that many of them are growing good and have good looking tomatoes. What interested me the most was my cherry tomato plants. They had some that were perfectly red and ready to be eaten. I had taken a few here and there that were ready about a week ago, but there wasn't enough for a harvest. I also wanted to make sure that they tasted right.
Not any of my other tomatoes are ready for picking, but this always happens every year. My cherry tomatoes start first and then a little bit more time passes and then I will start picking either my steakhouse tomatoes or my Roma super sauce tomatoes. It depends on how much sun each plant gets and how long it has been growing. Right now I think the next tomato will be one of my steakhouse tomatoes. Those are perfect for sandwiches.
I picked 47 cherry tomatoes and this is just a first harvest. I can't imagine how many more I will pick between the four plants that I have growing these amazing tomatoes.
I also had some beans that were ready for picking as well. Not many beans this time, but I think once my vines get some flowers growing I will have another good harvest like I had previously. This is just a third harvest of many more to come hopefully.

Harvesting the Most Beans and Cucumbers for 2016
I just happened to pick some more pole beans today that I wasn't sure were going to be ready. I had been watching them over the past couple of days and I didn't want them to get too big and possibly go to seed. That is why I wanted to pick them today and there were much more than I thought there would be that were ready for picking.
Not only did I pick beans, but I also had many more cucumbers that were ready. I had picked some last week that were definitely good sized, but today and a couple of days ago I probably picked over a dozen and possibly two dozen.

The End of July Means Fall Seed Planting Begins
This is just an optional way of extending the growing season by planting fall seeds that can withstand the cool weather or sometimes require the cool weather to produce great tasting leaves. Since time is always against me as a gardener I like to grow as much as I can in the allotted time that I have. This is why I like to have a fall harvest and this is usually when I begin planting the seeds.
It is also a great way to grow different things for the current garden season. This year I am planning on growing cabbage, kale, and broccoli. These plants thrive in the colder weather and can also withstand some hot weather in case there are some hotter than normal days during September to October. I planted eight of each plant into small pots today.
On a side note some of my cherry tomatoes have been turning red. I noticed this yesterday when I was going through my plants and I noticed that some of my cherries were red. They were not quite ripe to eat, but today I decided to pick one of them a give it a taste. It was quite good for a first and I should be picking many more of them in the next couple of weeks at the most. I hope it will be sooner, but these are just the early bloomers that like to ripen really fast and early.
I finally have my first honeydew melon of the season growing on one of the vines. I only have two plants, but since I have never grown these before I think that this would be plenty for now. I could always grow more next year, but for now I wanted to focus on the honeydew and my watermelons for this season.
Speaking of my watermelons I think that they are doing quite well right now. I hope that they get as big as possible because it won't be the same eating a small watermelon. I am not looking to grow a 200 lb watermelon, but I think a twenty to thirty pound melon would be perfect. Take a look at a couple of them below.
I have a total of five watermelons growing at the moment and these are just two examples of how they are growing. The others are pretty much the same in size and shape, but I wonder which one of these melons will be the biggest of the season. Make sure to keep reading this blog to find out how big these watermelons can get this year.

Harvest Time for Beans and Cucumbers
It is that time of the year where I will be picking more vegetables and fruits and harvesting will be a daily thing. Right now harvesting is still slow, but within a week or so I am sure that I will have to start picking more vegetables in the garden
I have started with zucchini and now that my beans and cucumbers are ready I will now start picking them. My cucumber plants have many vegetables on them and my beans while they take a little bit longer to produce beans they will bring a much better harvest.
Even though I have only picked one cucumber so far you can see in the picture below that my plants have many of them that I am waiting to ripen. Once they get a little bit bigger I will be picking all of them that are ready for eating.
I picked just two pounds of beans yesterday.
Along with beans and cucumbers I even had some more zucchinis that were ready for harvesting as well. As you know these plants will just continue to produce for the rest of the year as long as I give them exactly what they need.

Most Fruits and Vegetables Flowering and Beginning To Produce
I have been harvesting my lettuce for some time and now that they are pretty much done I have been working on getting other fruits and vegetables ready for harvesting. The only vegetable that I have been picking is my zucchini. The plants are growing quite well which includes both my transplants and the ones that were directly sown in the soil.
The latter plants are producing zucchini, but I have yet to pick any from them. I am sure I will be harvesting them very soon. So far I have only been picking zucchini from my transplanted plants. I actually picked a four pound one this morning.
Here are some of the zucchini that has been growing on my other plants that are not quite ready for harvesting.
My tomato plants are doing quite well this season and they are continuing to produce fruit and plenty of flowers so that I will have fruit throughout the season. They are not at the ripening stage yet, but I am hopeful that they will be ripening very soon in the near future.
I also have a cucumber and watermelon that have started to grow. I have a pollinated cucumber, but my watermelon I am not so sure at this time. I will know if the watermelon was pollinated in the near future. The good news is that the vine that it came from will continue to produce these fruits until it gets one that is successfully pollinated. Check out both of them below.

The Zucchini Harvesting Season has Begun
That is right the time for harvesting zucchini has started and that is what I did this past weekend. They always grow much faster than you would think, but as long as they get bigger each day it was only a matter of time before I picked them. The first one of the season was three pounds and about average in size for my liking.
Now that it is time for harvesting other fruits and vegetables my lettuce season is coming to an end. The plants lasted a long time and I was able to pick them throughout the Spring and well into the warm and hot summer season.
Normally when it gets too hot they go to seed and that is pretty much the end. Before the lettuce season ends I was able to get on more large harvest of iceberg lettuce. My Ruby glow might have one more harvest in them as well, but I don't think I will be picking as many leaves as previously. Below are 80 leaves of iceberg lettuce picked recently.
