Now Some Cucumbers can be Harvested Today

I have left my cucumbers on the vines for plenty of days and it is now time to remove them from the vine and enjoy their amazing and sweet taste.  I wanted to pick them earlier, but I ended up harvesting them today instead. 

I also decided to start picking all kinds of zucchinis that were growing in the garden.  I was only going to pick one or two, but I saw that many of them were hard enough that they needed to be removed from the plant today.  I collected only four average to large sized zucchinis.  I still have plenty out there and will continue picking them as long as the plants provide them.

Just a quick side note on my squash plants that include my pumpkins, I have found about three pumpkins that are pollinated and have started getting bigger each day.  As long as I keep feeding them and don’t let them get dry they should continue getting bigger. 

Much Harvesting of Zucchini and Tomatoes on the Way

I would say that most of the harvesting of my vegetables and fruits from the garden will be coming sometime this month.  I would say in the next few weeks I should be start harvesting my tomatoes.  My zucchini are ready to be picked and there are a minimum of three that need to be picked soon.

This is just one of the zucchinis that I plan on picking this weekend.  I think it is a perfect size for harvesting and I always wait until they have reached their peak size.








Tomatoes are also on my list for harvesting, but they will not be ready for another couple of weeks once they reach their peak size they still need to ripen.  It is still good to see most of my plants producing tomatoes including my steakhouse, cherry, and even Roma.

Here is just a small cluster of Roma tomatoes that have been hiding on some of my plants.  I hope to get plenty of them in order to make as much sauce as possible to enjoy over the Fall and Winter.








Some more blueberries were ready for picking and I picked my second harvest of these delicious berries.  I think I will have at least a few more harvests and hope to pick as many as possible.

This is just a sample of some of the berries that I picked recently.  I have many more that need to be harvested real soon and I hope to do that in the next couple of days or so.

Harvest Time for Beans and Cucumbers

It is that time of the year where I will be picking more vegetables and fruits and harvesting will be a daily thing.  Right now harvesting is still slow, but within a week or so I am sure that I will have to start picking more vegetables in the garden

I have started with zucchini and now that my beans and cucumbers are ready I will now start picking them.  My cucumber plants have many vegetables on them and my beans while they take a little bit longer to produce beans they will bring a much better harvest.

Even though I have only picked one cucumber so far you can see in the picture below that my plants have many of them that I am waiting to ripen.  Once they get a little bit bigger I will be picking all of them that are ready for eating.

I picked just two pounds of beans yesterday.

Along with beans and cucumbers I even had some more zucchinis that were ready for harvesting as well.  As you know these plants will just continue to produce for the rest of the year as long as I give them exactly what they need.

Picking More Beans Seems to be the Trend

Right now my beans are exploding and they are continuing to get more flowers on them which leads to more beans for me to pick.  Around this time is usually the peak of my bean vines in terms of picking and harvesting.  I do not know if I will have many more harvests to make, but as long as they keep growing I will be there to get all of them.

Some other vegetables were on the ropes of being picked and I wanted to mention those too.  One pepper, a cucumber, and just a couple more zucchinis were picked this past week.

This is all I was able to pick this week.  The beans I picked a few hours ago and everything else happened yesterday.

Harvesting the First Vegetables May be Just Around the Corner

So far the only thing that I have been harvesting is mainly leaf plants including spinach and lettuce.  Now that spinach is over and lettuce season coming to close it is almost time to start harvesting vegetables that are beginning to grow in the garden.  The first of the season would most likely be zucchini.

My zucchini plants are growing quite well and at least most of them or even all of them are producing vegetables at a very fast speed.  They started flowering about a week or so ago and are now producing very large zucchinis and it will not be long before I start harvesting them.

This is just one and there are many that are this size or even bigger.  I would say by this week I will be harvesting zucchini.  This will be the non leaf vegetable to be harvested this season.

My pumpkins are even growing good and the vines are just spreading out like crazy.  I acutally found a pumpkin that looks like it has been pollinated very recently.  I would say less than a week ago it flowered and was pollinated by the bees.  I never thought I would get a pumpkin this early, but I am not going to complain because the earlier they come the more time they have to grow that pumpkin.

This is the first pumpkin so far and there are more that have begun flowering, but I will not now if they were pollinated until another few days to a week at the most.  Once it starts getting bigger then that means it was pollinated and will start getting bigger each day.

Cucumbers are another vegetable starting to grow and flower.  I found the first fruit starting to flower yesterday that means cucumbers will be visible very soon.  There are only a couple of plants flowering, but I have only seen one fruit actually opening.

My tomato plants are growing flowers too and I am hoping that some of them will start ripening very soon.  The goal is to start picking them by mid July at the latest.  I don't think any of them will be ready by the fourth of July, but they are usually not ready by then normally.  Here is a large Roma tomato that may be the first tomato harvested this season.

The Latest Harvests of Zucchini and Blueberries

Today was a great day for picking blueberries and it has been quite some time since I last picked them a few days ago.  It can take some time for blueberries to ripen and with so many of them on each bush it is a great idea to wait at least three days before going back out there and picking some more.

Some of the larger bushes that I have are producing some of the larger berries which happens every single year.  Feeding all your plants every year will help yield larger and juicier fruits that you can enjoy through the whole season.  Here is what I collected today.

After picking as many ripe berries as I could I went on to check on my zucchinis.  I had quite a few today and I ended up picking three of them.  One of them actually weighed five and a half pounds!  This was the largest one that I have ever grown in the garden.  The other two were about three pounds each which is still very good.

In the next post I will let you how my entire garden is going and what vegetables or fruits I should expect next to harvest.

Harvested The First Set of Blueberries

One of my favorite fruits blueberries are great to have and I always try to enjoy them throughout the summer and save them for days when they are not around.  This week we received much rain which helped them out and the first batch that I picked came two days ago.

I didn't get much because this is only the first of many that will come throughout the entire summer.  One pound is all I got, but there are many more blueberries that I can see that have not yet ripened.  Basically I am hoping that these other bushes will have many more that I will pick in the near future.

Zucchinis are just as great and I had a couple more that needed to be picked before they started to go bad.  I love picking them when they are very large because you cannot find this size in any store.  Although there is only one good meal that you can make out of these large vegetables.

Harvested First Zucchini Today

I just harvested my first zucchini of the year only about 12 hours ago when I first woke up today.  I wasn't sure if it was going to be ready because I have never picked one of these vegetables this early in the season before.  I was a little leery on picking it, but once I felt how strong it was and the sound it made when I tapped on it I knew that it was time to pick it.

It ended up being a good choice because then I used it for dinner today and it was well worth the wait and all the work that I put into getting them.  I hope to pick many more this season, but this is just the beginning and I have more that are growing.  I just need to keep an eye on them and watch for any squash borers that might take up residence in the stems.

Other than picking this zucchini I have been weeding the entire garden for the past week.  This process is always a pain, but it is something that I have to do in order to get vegetables and fruit like the one I just picked today.  This is why weeding is very important for all plants.
